Plant and Planter Fit Finder
Use this page to match our plants and trees to a planter that fits: compare the plant's pot size with the planter's opening and depth, check the proportions, then order both on one trade order. The table below lists our planters, pots and vases with height, colour and live stock.

Find planters that fit your pot
Fit rule: the planter opening must be at least 1cm wider than the pot. "Snug" is within 3cm, "Good" 3–6cm, "Roomy" over 6cm (fill the gap with moss, bark or packing). Where we have not yet measured a planter's inner opening, we show its outer size so you can check.

Step 1: find the plant's pot size
Most of our potted plants and trees are supplied in a weighted plastic pot, and the pot size is on each product page, for example "16cm (w) x 13cm (h) approx.". Across the catalogue, 16cm and 18cm pots are the most common, smaller plants tend to sit in 10cm to 13cm pots, and larger trees in 20cm to 22cm pots. The 150cm areca palm, for instance, sits in a 16cm pot. Pot figures are approximate, so leave a little room rather than aiming for an exact fit.
Step 2: check the planter opening and depth
- Opening: a few centimetres wider than the pot. Some planters state an inner hole diameter, such as the Zaturn planter (20cm opening) or the Gliese embossed planter (28cm opening). Where only overall size is listed, allow for the wall thickness.
- Depth: at least the pot height, so the plastic rim sits below the planter edge. If the planter is much deeper, raise the pot on a block or packing.
- Legs and stands: planters on legs or stands add height to the whole display, which counts towards ceiling clearance.
Step 3: get the proportions right
For floor trees, a planter around a quarter to a third of the total display height usually looks balanced; a 180cm tree suits a planter of roughly 45cm to 60cm. Tabletop plants look best in a pot no wider than the plant's spread. Match finish to the room: hammered metal planters for warm, polished interiors, composite planters for larger floor pieces, and ceramic planters for desks and shelves. Browse the tallest options in large planters.
Stability in public spaces
Weighted pots keep plants upright in normal use, but tall trees in busy areas benefit from extra ballast packed around the pot inside the planter. See large artificial trees by height for tree sizes.
Or buy it ready-potted
If you'd rather not match sizes, some plants are sold with a decorative planter or a separate matching metal planter included; see ready-potted artificial plants.

Frequently asked questions
How much bigger should the planter be than the pot?
Allow a few centimetres of clearance around the pot, so the inner opening is roughly 2cm to 4cm wider than the pot width. That leaves room to lower the pot in and adjust it upright, and to pack ballast or top dressing around it if you want to. Pot dimensions on our product pages are approximate, so avoid choosing a planter whose opening exactly matches the listed pot width.
Where do I find the pot size of a plant?
The pot type and pot dimensions are listed on each plant or tree product page, for example a plastic weighted pot of 16cm (w) x 13cm (h) approx. Stems and some unpotted lines have no pot at all and are marked as bare stems. If a product page has no pot dimensions, contact us and we will check the sample before you order planters for a project.
What if the planter is much deeper than the pot?
Raise the pot inside the planter with a block, upturned pot or packing so the rim sits just below the planter edge, then cover the top with a dressing of your choice. This also lets the tree sit at the height you want. Check the planter depth, which is usually listed as the planter height, against the pot height before ordering.
Can I order plants and planters on the same order?
Yes. Plants, trees, stems and planters all go on one trade order, and the £150 ex VAT minimum applies to the whole basket. Planters are sold singly, so you can order one per tree. Large orders are generally palletised, and standard UK mainland delivery is free on orders of £300 ex VAT or more.
