Fire-Retardant Artificial Plants

What the fire-retardant flag means

Our fire-retardant lines are made from fully tested fire-retardant materials. Testing is carried out at material level to EN 13501-1 (reaction to fire, classification B-s2, d0) and NFPA 701, and the same tested material is used across the range's styles. Test reports are available to trade customers on request, and your venue's fire risk assessment decides what is acceptable in a given location.

Only lines carrying the fire flag in the table are fire-retardant. A similar-looking plant elsewhere in the catalogue without the flag is standard stock. Fire-retardant means treated to slow ignition and flame spread; it is a different property from fire resistance in building terms, so describe these lines as fire-retardant in your documents. Whatever the material, keep every plant clear of heaters, candles, cooking equipment and naked flames.

What is in the range

• Trees, 165cm to 210cm: areca and phoenix palms, a cherry blossom tree, natural bamboo, ruscus, lychee ball, black olive, nandina and a 180cm retusa ficus, each in a weighted pot. The 210cm areca palm is among the widest at around 100cm. See fire-retardant trees.
• Trailing hanging plants, 68cm to 128cm long: 15 lines that are also UV-stabilised, such as the 71cm trailing pothos, supplied without pots, plus a 190cm palm garland. Compare them on the fire-retardant and UV-stabilised hub.
• Bushes, stems and grasses, 30cm to 90cm: aglaonema, caladium, peacock foliage, Boston fern, a mini ficus topiary ball, and fern, grass and leaf stems for planters and arrangements. Every line is sold individually. See fire-retardant plants.

Specifying for a project

• Put the SKU from the table on your specification so the fire-retardant line, not a lookalike, is ordered and delivered.
• Request the test reports before you submit documents to a client or fire officer.
• The flag applies to the plant. Decorative planters, baskets and any moss or top-dressing you add are separate products, so include them in your own assessment. For display planters see large planters.
• For multi-room or multi-site schemes, use the minimum stock filter (25, 50 or 100) to shortlist lines deep enough to cover every location in one order, and ask us about continuity if the project runs in phases.
